Between driving to and from work 5 days a week, running errands around town, travelling to and from vacation destinations or your summer cottage getaway and driving the kids to soccer practice, your car can quickly start to look (and smell) like the city garbage dump if it’s not organized properly and kept clean.
We’ve gathered 3 simple solutions that will help turn your second home into an admirable place, and help make your driving experience pleasant and looking or smelling fresh!
1. Ensure that the driver’s area is kept organized.
Keep important, frequently used items close by and ensure that they are easily accessible. These items may include maps or a GPS, water bottle, your driver’s licence, napkins and other handy items. The last thing you want to do is be looking around in the passenger or back seats for important items, while behind the wheel. Try using the following products to store important items and keep them organized for quick and easy accessibility.
2. Keep your vehicle free from unpleasant odours and garbage clutter.
A travel-sized waste bag is handy to easily dispose of any garbage that you or the family may come across during your drive. Empty your waste bag frequently when stopping to fill up on gas, stopping for food, shopping, etc. This will help control any unpleasant odours, as well as keep your car free of unnecessary garbage clutter.
Freshness Tip: To keep your vehicle smelling fresh, try placing fabric softener sheets underneath your car seats or filling the ashtray with baking soda!
3. Store important and handy materials neatly in your trunk.
Emergency kits, a change of clothing, umbrellas, blankets, flashlights, children’s books and other items that may be lying around the car should be securely kept in place and stored away in the trunk. Kids can label their own storage box and fill it with items of their own to help keep them busy on longer trips.
Shopping Tip: A small cooler is a great item to keep in the trunk to store refrigerated items and frozen groceries when shopping at multiple locations! That way you won’t have to worry about rushing home to put cold items in the fridge or freezer.
